Hello Pat,
Welcome to the bluebird babble listserv! The timeframe of nest-building
you're seeing at your nestbox sounds about normal, they often take a week or
more to build a nest. The nestcup is the last bit of construction, so it
sounds like they're almost done.
I tried to look at the Cornell reports for date-of-first-egg but
couldn't get into it today. You might want to try it. Go to
www.birds.cornell.edu/birdhouse, click on the NEWS AND RESULTS block, then click on the QUERY TBN
DATA line, then select your query parameters.
I can tell you that last year the first mountain bluebird egg recorded on
the trail I help monitor appeared on April 21, another was on April 24.
Those were early nests, most of our MOBL nests didn't put down the first egg till
around the 4th - 8th of May, the latest was May 18! Our nestbox trail is
south of Larkspur in Douglas County, open grassland, elevation ~ 7,000 feet.
   Hope this helps!
