[Bluebird-babble] MOBL question

Thanks Kevin
I am just trying to figure out what is going on. A nest was started in Box 1 and then abandoned before a cup was built. A nest was started in Box 2 and then abandoned (I thought) before a cup was built. Then it rained and the next day the male was displaying to a female (new bird?) at the second box. Maybe they stopped building and were waiting for the rain - it has been very dry and windy all March and April here.

Do male Mountain Bluebirds build a partial nest as part of the courtship ritual?
Not something I've seen documented anywhere, so I'm guessing the answer is no. I do believe that sometimes a pair will start a nest, then abandon it partway through to build one somewhere else.
