Hi

Today I checked my four nest boxes in Pinyon-Juniper-grassland country a few miles SSW of Florence CO. This is the first year for these nest boxes.

two of the boxes are empty

Juniper Titmouse: nest almost completed on April 12; 2 eggs on April 21; four newly hatched young plus one egg on May 8!

Mountain Bluebird: birds began investigating nest boxes on March 28; first box rim constructed but no cup then abandoned; rim of grass in second box about 2-3" high on April 20 but no cup; birds were not active at nest until the day after our first rain of spring (April 29); 5 eggs on May 8. Looks like it took them 3-4 days to build a cup and then lay one egg a day until today? A bird was not incubating when I checked the nest at about 09:00 this morning.

Thanks to those who advised me that it might take this long for the birds to really get down to it!
