When the first brood fledges should the nest box be cleaned out within a few days so the adults can start a second nest or will they/should they reuse the first nest?
Hello Pat,
I believe bluebirds will build a 2nd nest over the old one. It's often hard to get to the box to clean it out between broods because the female will frequently start on the 2nd clutch immediately after the first brood fledges.
I envy your menagerie of box-nesters!
