To ASGD members -
This alert just arrived from National Audubon. The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge has been a high priority of Audubon's for over 30 years, so I always pass on these alerts. Please take a minute to call your Representative - Diana DeGette is mentioned below, but if she is NOT your Rep, call the Capitol switchboard # that's given, and ask for your own Representative to give them the message.
Thanks very much,
Polly Reetz
Conservation Chairman

Join Today's National Day of Action for the Arctic Refuge!
Dear John,
Join concerned citizens across the country and welcome back your elected officials from their July Fourth recess with a quick phone call. Urge your Representative NOT to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge or our coastlines to drilling. Together, let's demand that Congress stand up to Big Oil and protect these areas for future generations.
While you're doing your part with a phone call, Audubon staff and colleagues from sister organizations will be on Capitol Hill meeting with key members of Congress to reinforce your message.
Call your U.S. Representative TODAY and urge him or her not to open the Arctic Refuge and other special places to drilling.
You can reach your U.S. Representative—Rep. Diana DeGette—in Washington DC at (202) 225-4431 or by calling the Capitol Switchboard, (202) 224-3121.
Have you heard the latest solution to high gas prices? Drill everywhere, drill now. But even the Bush Administration's energy experts at the Energy Information Administration admit that oil from places like the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge could not be brought to market for ten years and even then would have no significant effect on gas prices at the pump. Conservation is our best tool for fighting high gas prices.
Unfortunately, Big Oil and their friends in Congress aren't going to stop trying to force their "drill everywhere" agenda through the legislative process. It's up to us to keep reminding our elected officials in Washington that more drilling is good for Big Oil, not American families.
Call your Member of Congress today and ask him or her not to open the Arctic Refuge and other special places to drilling. You can look up your Representative's contact information and report your calls at our Action Center.
We can't drill our way out of this mess. We need sensible solutions, and sacrificing our last best wilderness areas is not the answer.
If you are reading this message after the National Day of Action or cannot make the call on Tuesday, July 8, we encourage you to make your call as soon as possible—it is vital that members of Congress hear from their constituents on this issue. Do you know someone else who cares about protecting the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge? Help us to spread the word:
