Senate Casts Historic Global Warming Vote

Dear Polly,

Last week, the Senate cast a landmark vote on global warming and set the stage to pass global warming legislation in 2009. Fifty-four senators—including Senator Ken Salazar—registered their support for action on global warming solutions. While falling short of the 60 votes needed to end the filibuster of the Climate Security Act, it was another important milestone in our long road to reducing global warming pollution. Thank you to everyone who wrote or called their Senators. Because of your efforts, there is more support than ever before for passing a strong global warming bill.
Now it's time to let our senators know how we feel about their vote. We often ask you to write to your members of Congress, urging them to support or oppose a bill, but it is equally important to say "Thanks" when they have supported your position.

Please thank Senator Salazar for supporting an end to the filibuster and for moving forward on global warming legislation.

Global warming is the most serious threat to the environment in human history. There is no greater threat to birds and wildlife—and to the future we all want to pass to our children and grandchildren.

We've all worked hard to get this far. Unfortunately, there are many interests working against meaningful global warming legislation and in favor of business as usual. Global warming is here. It is now. Solving global warming must be our highest priority and the benefits are real—cleaner air, green jobs, healthier children, energy security, lower prices for consumers and an end to our dangerous reliance on fossil fuels. We must continue to press for action that reduces global warming pollution. With your help, we are confident we can move our elected officials to action and we can solve global warming. The first step is to thank the Senators, like Senator Salazar, that supported this historic legislation.

Please send a quick thank you note now.

P.S. Colorado's other Senator, Wayne Allard, voted to defeat the bill. If you'd like, after you've thanked Sen. Salazar for his efforts to find solutions to global warming, you can send a letter expressing your disappointment to Sen. Allard.
