No towhees seen recently, but Bushtits were flitting about in the pinyon pine and crabapples on Oct. 4--they also made a brief appearance in August. The last hummingbird seen was an immature Broad-tailed on Oct. 1. All four common species were seen most of the summer, but many more Rufous and Calliope than last year. Black-chinned were here almost daily from May 2 to Sept. 16.

On Sept. 3, five nighthawks flew just over the rooftop heading south. This repeated each evening for about a week. Also that week Western Tanagers devoured crabapples and hopefully a few yellow jackets.
Warblers started appearing around Aug. 27. Mostly Wilson's and Yellow, and an Orange-crowned skulked around in the currant bushes on Sept. 16.

Our first of season Pine Siskins appeared Sept. 21 on the thistle feeder after no Lesser Goldfiches had been seen since Sept. 16. The few American Goldfiches we have are now in their drab winter plumage.
