Thanks to Hugh and Urling.
Seven Sandhill Cranes (two hatch-year and five adults) roosted Friday night
at Walker Pit. They lifted off at 7:10 Saturday morning, the adults with
their deep bugling calls and the juvies with their higher-pitched whistles. They
flew SSE over Cherry Creek and then over the East Rim of Castlewood Canyon
SP.
Later through a spotting scope I saw male and female Northern Harriers, a
Prairie Falcon, and an accipiter (I think a Sharp-shinned) along the eastern side
of the quarry south of Walker Pit and north of Castlewood Canyon SP. The
falcon and accipiter interacted; later the female Harrier and PRFA perched in the
same tree.
