I made an early morning foray today to Walker Pit, right as it was light enough to see fairly well.......around 7:10-7:45. The pond was beautiful in the early morning light, with a slight fog rolling off it's surface......which was abuzz with waterfowl. The Surf Scoter which people had posted (thank you) was still there, hanging around in the south end of the pond for great views......swimming around, diving, surfacing, preening, etc. Excellent!!! (I wish I had a good digiscope setup)
There were many other waterfowl across the pond, including at least 250 Coots, a couple dozen Ruddy Ducks, at least 2 Pied-billed Grebes, and unknown numbers of Redheads, Canvasbacks, Ring-necked Ducks, Wigeons, Gadwalls, Mallards, Green-winged Teal, and Canada Geese. The far end of the pond was somewhat obscured by the mist, so there may have been other goodies down there, that I couldn't see. There was also a Belted Kingfisher plying the waters for a meal.
Overall, a very fun morning at the Pit!
