Saturday we had a "new" bird at our house in the Pinery. A female red-naped
sapsucker spent the entire day in an old cottonwood in our backyard. We
first noticed her at 7:45 AM and she was still there at 5:15 PM when we left
for the evening. She happily made numerous holes(very quickly and
efficiently!) and never left that section of the tree the entire day. Pygmy nuthatches,
flickers, a squirrel and wasps all checked out the sap that was oozing.
