The bum weather Wednesday-Friday drew a lot of birds just to the vicinity of our house -- 34-47 each day, a total of 53 over the three days. Both the variety and the quantity impressed us mightily.

Lots of sparrows -- 100 spizellas, almost all Chipping but a few quite well-marked Clay-colored.
Lots of bluebirds -- up to 40 Westerns, 15 Mountains. We don't remember seeing this many Westerns, ever. I guess we should start looking for an Eastern mixed in with them -- we did see one last October.
Friday, lots of flycatchers. The expected ones -- 8 Western Kingbirds, 1 Cassin's Kingbird, 2 Say's Phoebes, an Empidonax of unknown species. Plus, two new species for our little subdivision: an Eastern Phoebe and a Gray Flycatcher (ID based on how it flicked its tail down, then up). Also, on 9/6, a W. Wood-Pewee and a this morning.
On our pond, a Solitary Sandpiper, also new for our locality. Plus a female Mallard, a Wood Duck, and a Sora.
The first Blue Jay in a while just came in, just in time to scold a huge immature female Cooper's Hawk.
