Although I don't normally get many warblers in my yard, I had a few today......what a treat!
There were at least 3 Yellow-rumped (Audubon's) Warblers, flitting around my waterfall. It was fun to watch, since I also got to witness them chasing off a couple of hummingbirds, which also seemed to want to be around the waterfall. Every time a hummer would come close, the Yellow-rumped Warbler would dart out and chase it away.
There were also 2 other warblers, that were either Wilson's or Hooded Warblers, but I did not get a look with my binoculars. I watched them in my Russian Olive trees for about 2 minutes, at a distance of only 15-20', but did not have my binocs; once I decided to make a dash for the optics and returned, they were gone. I've seen many Wilson's Warblers before, but these appeared to have more deeply olive-colored backs, seemed larger (Wilson's are so small), and had some white-ish borders in their tails, visible only when they flew. They did have some black on the top of their heads, but I could not get an accurate accounting of how much, without my binoculars. Even after several other "sneaky" attempts to find them, I could not. I'd love to have some inputs on this ID, and the possibility that they were actually Hooded Warblers.
Good Birding,
