I watched two Ospreys and a Sharp-shinned Hawk near the Homestead at
Castlewood Canyon SP this morning. One Osprey perched for more than a half hour in a
tall snag close to the creek (near the curve in the trail that has been
Ovenbird territory). It remained perched when a female Osprey flew from the N and
headed SE, over it, and on over the East Rim.
I saw the Sharpie flying in a circular pattern after I heard alarm calls from
chickadees and jays.
Later, further down that trail, close to the West Side trailhead, I had
another Osprey sighting; that bird again coming from the N. (Perhaps these
raptors were coming from Walker Pit - did anyone see Ospreys at that pond this
morning?)
Also saw a Prairie Falcon and five Red-tailed Hawks (all possibly residents,
not migrants) and American Kestrels this AM in the park.
