Following up on Glenn Walbek's post yesterday, Urling and I stopped to inspect the Centennial pit today. The Common Loon remains, and we saw no other birds except two Canada Geese in the water and one in a tree nest along Cherry Creek, plus, flying north, a Great Egret , which may have just exited the gravel pit or may have winged all the way through Castlewood Canyon. That plus Glenn's Baird's Sandpiper yesteday brings our list of birds in the 'Franktown Basin' to 248 species.
As we watched today, Urling saw 7 elk. As we watched them run along the east side of Cherry Creek, they contemplated the fence and finally jumped over the fence, crossed Colo. 83, and disappeared into the trees north of the Franktown school.
