[Douglbirds] Franktown Area Birding

On Friday, I stopped at the pond along Twenty Mile Road, west of Parker
Road, and saw western grebes and ruddy ducks.  Brenda Beatty

Tom H. and I birded around the Franktown area this morning......what a
beautiful day!  We saw 61 species between 6:30am and Noon, at 3 locations.
Here are some of the highlights.

 

WALKER PIT

Pied-billed Grebe

Western Grebe

Bufflehead

Common Goldeneye

Ring-necked Duck

Gadwall

Lesser Scaup

Ruddy Duck

Violet-green Swallow

 

McLAIN PIT

Common Loon (still swimming around the pond)

Says Phoebe

Long-billed Curlew (flying from south to north)

Swainson's Hawk

Mountain & Western Bluebirds

Snowy Egret (wading around, then chased off by a Canada Goose)

Loggerhead Shrike

American Pipit

Ring-billed & California Gulls

 

Castlewood Canyon

Cedar Waxwing (many in the junipers eating the berries)

American Goldfinch

Tree & Violet-Green & Northern Rough-winged Swallows

All the nuthatches (saw many Pygmy, heard White-breasted & Red-breasted, no
creepers)

Turkey Vulture

White-throated Swift

Prairie Falcon (cruising from end to end, and back)

Sharp-shinned Hawk

Rock & Canyon Wrens

Broad-tailed Hummingbird

Red Crossbill (male & female, along the road up in the pines)

Dark-eyed Junco (a couple stragglers)

 

Overall, it was a great morning for being out and enjoying nature!
