Tick your calendar for Sunday, Sept. 9, to go on the annaul Fall Bird Count at Castlewood Canyon State Park.

You can join premier naturalist Randy Lentz on this year's Fall Bird Count in the park (sponsored for over 20 years by Denver Field Ornithologists and Denver Audubon Society). Meet him at the Homestead parking lot at 6:30 a.m. - bring lunch if you like, also water, snacks, and binoculars. You can call Randy at 303-680-3381 for more details.

Each year the fall count finds 50-60 species. Most numerous include jays (Steller's and Scrub), chickadees, nuthatches, robins, Lesser and American Goldfinches, and Vesper Sparrows. A few Wilson's Warblers may look for insects along Cherry Creek, and Townsend's Warblers may sneak through the conifers.
