Your description sounds to me as if it's closest to a Nashville Warbler. The Bob & Bob book (Andrews & Righter 1992) shows that they show up in Colorado starting in mid August, although it shows only a couple of records in Douglas County. And says that people see them in pine/oak woodland -- what in the heck is a Caryopteris shrub?
