I usually try to get my hummingbird feeder out before they are looking for it, but Monday was a day that I was running a little late and two Calliope Hummingbirds showed up as I was bringing it over to the hook. Usually when this happens I proceed on and put it up, but that morning I stopped and held the feeder up. The two tiny hummingbirds eager for their first drink of the day came over and drank from the feeder even settling onto the perch and seemed to be more concerned with battling each other than with me. I was able to get a nice close look at them while they both drank and then chased each other and returned. The next morning the two (possibly the same?) showed up again and one of them drank while I held the feeder after chasing the other away. Not having a lot of time in the morning, I didn't wait to see if the other would return for a drink. I would hear a Broad-tailed Hummingbird going by both days, but it did not stop with me there. This morning my husband wanted
a turn, so I sent him out with the feeder, and he got one Broad-tailed and one Calliope that landed on the feeder as he held it. The Broad-tailed was much more nervous and didn't stay hardly any time at all, but the Calliope sat there and had a nice long drink.
