[Douglbirds] shrike strike!

When we stopped to pick up mail the other day , we were very taken
aback to look no more than ten feet from us at a shrike attacking a
male house finch. It had it down on the snow and then grabbed it and
flew into a pine tree.
I had never seen a shrike before, but immediately guessed that was
what it was and Sibley confirmed it.

Last month I posted seeing an evening grosbeak at the feeder with a
flock of juncos. Can anyone tell me if this is a common occurrence
at this time of year?
