The Creekside Park/Country Meadows/Saulsbury Park sewage treatment
pond (all the same) had 2 Hooded Mergansers and 12-15 Common
Goldeneyes. Goldeneyes were putting on quite a display. Males would
come up from diving, stretch their necks straight out and up, flaring
feathers near the head and appearing like a grebe for a moment. Then
several at once would jerk their heads back low over their backs and
then jerk them suddenly forward. Do other birds, e.g., Hooded
mergansers, also throw their heads back and forward like this?
The Bar triple C/20 Mile Rd and Mainstreet pond also had 20 Common
Mergansers, a pair of Hooded Mergansers, and, in the wetlands to the
west, a pair of Buffleheads.
