A Sandhill Crane extravaganza: Urling and I sat outside from 4:30 to 6:30 pm yesterday afternoon and watched -- and heard -- a continuous stream of Sandhills. Lucky for us, they kept swirling to find different windstreams; the flocks varied in size from 40 to 400. I don't know if I'd go up to 5000, but we surely saw 3500. [We also noticed at least 10 Red-tailed Hawks moving south at the same time.]
The stream continues: we heard them at 11 pm and 1 am (old guys don't sleep through the night). And, at 1030 this morning, another flock of 300, headed toward Castlewood Canyon State Park. Along with an Osprey carrying a fish.
I also heard from Clarke Poos that he heard them in Castle Rock yesterday around dusk.
