The McClain pit, this afternoon, had a plethora of Lesser Scaups -- I counted 68 and probably a few had dived underwater as I scoped the pond. Also a few other ducks (Gadwalls mostly and six Common Mergansers), and three each Ring-billed and California Gulls. Also two Greater Yellowlegs.

The Great Horned Owls about which I reported before -- on Walker Road driving in to the Walker pit -- have at least two young now. The sitter (female?) has perched higher and higher on the nest this past week, and this afternoon, with the help of a scope, we could see at least two white fuzzy things over the rim of the nest.

Walker had fewer birds -- maybe a dozen scaup, a few goldeneyes, and some geese.
