On the Winkler Ranch this past Friday, I saw Bobolinks, Northern
Mockingbirds, Lazuli Buntings and Lark Buntings.

When I was monitoring a nest box on our property in Deerfield (Franktown)
with Violet-green Swallows in it, I noticed something very soft in the bottom of
the nest cup, along with feathers. I removed it, since I did not know if it
was a dead bird or not. It was a Cottontail bunny tail! Apparently, a fox or
coyote may have left it for use by somebody else, and the Violet-green
swallows grabbed it for their nest! I'll be checking for eggs this coming week. It
should be nice and soft and warm!
