We have reveled in three different owls in three nights: Great Horned (sitting on a nest about 3/4 mile from our house); Saw-whet (calling, no nest information); and, for the last three nights, Long-eared (a spaced-out, mellow hoot -- the typical owl hoot.
Ten Year ago we encountered fledged Long-eareds, but not since, though we've heard them in later years. WE hear Saw-whets most years, and one roosted in a flicker box for 6 weeks before it abandoned it. The flicker box remains -- maybe this year the owl(s) wlll use it.

The bluebirds have returned, though not in numbers. We counted 5 Mountains yesterday. And today, 15, over on Pleasant View Drive, between Founders Village and Colo. 83, north of Franktown.
