Given the long series of cold nights, yes, it seems ambitious, but not
uncommon. In milder years, it's been more common to have a clutch of eggs by this
time.
I've observed this at my home & recall one spring in very cold weather when
the male waited outside my back door and every time I put mealworms in the
feeder, he called loudly and the female flew off the eggs to eat 8 or 9 mealworms
and returned directly to incubate. All the eggs hatched.
