Birding and Banding - Guided Program

We'll focus on local breeding birds and migrants. Visit the Chatfield Banding Station to discover how and why we band birds. See wild birds close-up as researchers collect data! Appropriate for all ages and birding levels. Wear long pants to protect against poison ivy.

Join us for a 3-day, 25 mile adventure along the Niobrara River, a deep cut through the Sandhills with many waterfalls. Enjoy the slow moving river in single person recreational kayaks. Bird, botanize, and explore. Meeting Place: C-470 take Morrison exit. Drive 4mi west of Morrison along CO 74, past Idledale, to park entrance on left.
Search for Lazuli Buntings, swallows, hummingbirds, dippers, flycatchers, goldfinches, Cedar Waxwings, grosbeaks, vireos and orioles. We'll also look for spring wildflowers along Bear Creek and the canyon walls. Be prepared for foothills hiking, with some elevation gain. Lunch optional after hike.
A Day at the Lake

Join FANS (Friends and Neighbors of Washington Park), Denver Parks & Recreation, Public Works and the Colorado Division of Wildlife for A Day at the Lake to learn about Washington Park and how to be a park steward. Exhibits and information about wildlife in the park, fishing and the new volunteer stewardship program instituted by Denver Parks & Recreation. An added treat: ASGD member Tom Bush, an Audubon Master Birder, will lead a bird walk from 8am to 11am. Meet at the Boathouse near Franklin Street, and bring your binoculars and cameras.

The first B&B Trivia Night was a success, bringing birders and non-birders together for a great time, good food, and camaraderie. Join us for another exciting evening of trivia, which we will expand to include general nature and outdoor adventure questions. Form a team of up to six or join a team that night.
