PLEASE NOTE: You must register for this field trip (limit: 10 people) and complete the liability form when you register. Walk-up or impromptu participants will not be allowed. Other requirements are described below.
We'll meet at the parking area at the southeast corner of 88th Ave. and Colorado Blvd. From there we'll walk on a concrete paved, mostly flat path (South Platte River Trail) for 1.5 miles, returning the way we came. Along the way we'll look for resident birds in grasslands, dense trees and shrubs, and on power lines, before the river swings toward the trail. Then it's time for ducks! We are likely to see a number of duck species on the river and smaller sparrows, chickadees, and possibly hawks and bald eagles in the vicinity.
The length of the outing may be dependent on weather. All abilities are welcome, and this field trip is accessible for those with mobility challenges.
Make sure to bring warm clothing! Jackets, hats, gloves/mittens, warm shoes, or boots. Binoculars are needed, a bird guide is helpful, and a spotting scope (if you have one) is optional. You may want to bring snacks, water, or a thermos of something warm!
By registering for and attending this field trip, you agree to the following:
You will self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms, even if you are vaccinated, and use common sense. DO NOT attend if you had recent exposure to an individual with symptoms or confirmation of COVID-19. If you have any symptoms or even suspect you could have COVID-19 symptoms, do not sign up for this trip.
-Masks Outdoors: Masks are not required outdoors. However, we encourage unvaccinated people to wear a mask when interacting with people outside their household when outdoors and maintain social distancing of six feet.
-Masks Indoors: We strongly recommend everyone, including fully vaccinated persons, wear a mask in all public indoor spaces and maintain social distancing of six feet when interacting with people outside their household.
