Event Details

The Denver Audubon Conservation committee invites you to a public webinar featuring Hannah Leonard, Program Director for Sporting Lead-Free. Discover the persistent challenge of lead poisoning in wildlife due to hunting and fishing, and explore actionable solutions through education and awareness. This event includes a short Denver Audubon Conservation Committee public meeting.

About the presenter: Hannah Leonard is the Program Director for Sporting Lead-Free, a non-political, educational initiative working to reduce inadvertent lead consumption by wildlife and people through the voluntary choice of lead-free ammunition and tackle

About the webinar: Ecological challenges seldom come with readily apparent and positive solutions. In the last two decades, a substantial body of evidence has unequivocally identified a widespread and pressing conservation problem, along with its viable solution. Despite the identification of lead poisoning in wildlife dating back to the 1890s, this issue persists, affecting raptors and scavengers due to the ingestion of lead from hunted big-game, upland birds, varmints, and fishing tackle. During this talk, we will delve into the impact of lead poisoning on specific wildlife species, examine how various sporting activities introduce lead into the environment, and explore how education and awareness can serve as a remedy for this human-induced challenge. Given the contentious nature of this issue, our aim is for you to depart from this presentation equipped with fresh messaging strategies and knowledge, fostering positive behavioral change for the cause of conservation.

View this meeting via Zoom. The link will be emailed about 3 hours prior to the event start. Registration closes at 3:00 p.m., November 8.
