sun13oct8:00 amsun10:00 amBirding Trip Along the Coal Creek Trail in LafayetteEnjoy a 2-hour birding trip along the Coal Creek Trail in Lafayette.

Event Details

This is a relatively flat trail that follows Coal Creek through a mixture of riparian and residential habitats. The trail is mostly packed dirt/gravel with a few momentary steep grades ~25 yards long. From the trailhead we will go west, aiming to reach the Coal Creek Corridor Open Space ~1 mile from the trailhead and turn back within our timeframe. We will move at a casual pace overall. This field trip is accessible for those with mobility challenges.

Common birds sighted here at this time of year include Belted Kingfishers, Great Horned Owls, Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Mallards, and various Nuthatches. The Open Space at our turnaround point commonly hosts Northern Harriers, Western Meadowlarks, and various raptors.

Meeting location: Public Road Trailhead, Lafayette, CO 80026 (just south of Old Laramie Trail E & S Public Road, by the bridge).

Trip Leaders: Ryan and Katrena Laney. If you have any questions, please call Ryan at (303) 868-3942.

Advance registration, including signing of the liability waiver, is required. Walk-up or impromptu participants will not be allowed.

Please Note: If you have registered and no longer can attend the program, please contact the Denver Audubon Office at (303) 973-9530 as soon as possible.
