Walk the Wetlands

sun05mar8:00 amsun11:30 pmWalk the WetlandsJoin two Audubon Master Birders on a leisurely 3-mile walk on level paths along the South Platte River and adjacent wetlands and ponds.

Event Details

The Walk the Wetlands event begins at 8 a.m. at the Denver Audubon Kingery Nature Center. The group ventures along the South Platte River through open fields and deciduous woodland, and by ponds and marshes. The walk itself is about 3 miles on relatively flat terrain and takes ~3.5 hours, the time varying mostly due to weather conditions. Over the past winter months over the years have afforded the opportunity to see our many resident birds as well as both late and irruptive migrants from the north. Among the resident birds that winter here are many species of ducks, both Hairy and Downy Woodpeckers, White-breasted Nuthatches, Northern Flickers, Townsend's Solitaires, and Cedar Waxwings. As for late migrants, anything can show up. Audubon Center & Trails is listed as a Hotspot on eBird under ‘Explore Hotspots’:
