Spring is in the air, and with it, the return of many migratory birds that have been away all winter! Led by Denver Audubon volunteers, this trip is a faster-paced to participate in the annual Bird-a-thon, a friendly competition to see as many species as possible in 2 different habitats. Plan to explore approximately 3 miles along the South Platte River, on mostly flat, gravel, and boardwalk surfaces. We hope to find many newly arriving insect-eaters, such as warblers, swallows, and wrens, and will also be on the lookout for more uncommon species of sparrows and shorebirds that may just be passing through on their way to more northerly breeding grounds! Then take a quick drive up the road to the Platte Canyon Reservoir to explore a different habitat.
Meeting Location: Kingery Nature Center at Chatfield State Park. 11280 Waterton Rd., Littleton, CO 80125.
Trip Leaders: Patti Galli, Kerrie Lagon, and Emma Vawter.
