The Kinney Run area is a riparian valley in an ecotone between the plains and the foothills at about 6,000 ft. Technically between the Lyons formation hogback and the Fountain formation foothills, this little known treasure includes a variety of resident and migrant songbirds and raptors. We will be joined by Denver Audubon Executive Director Karl Brummert and Laurel Starr from Stewards of Golden Open Space. Starting at Illinois St, (where you will park), we will walk south, under US-6, up the Kinney Run valley on a paved trail. The spring migrants have arrived!
Directions: Take US-6 north to the 19th St exit toward downtown Golden. Turn right at first stop light (Illinois St.). Drive down Illinois St., where it dead ends in ~3/4 mile. Park on the street there.
Please note that this trip is accessible for those with mobility challenges.
