You must register for this workshop (limit: 28 people) and complete the liability form when you register. Walk-up or impromptu participants will not be allowed. Other requirements are described below.
Are you passionate about native plants and want to learn more about the ecological connections between plants and our Colorado birds? Join us for an engaging and exciting workshop on ways to diversify the birds found within your neighborhood or your own backyard using a variety of food groups provided by our native plants. Learn about the complexities of wild bird diets and how native plants provide the opportunity to create additional bird biodiversity within the landscape. We will cover some of the science behind the essential need for native plants, native plant choices for seed, berry, and nectar production, as well as plant choices for supporting local insects, including adult butterflies and caterpillars. We will also review the Native Plants for Birds handout that was created in partnership between Denver Audubon, CoNPS, Audubon Rockies, and CSU Extension. We will also welcome a guest instructor on native landscape design for beginners, specializing in small container gardens and native plant choices for pots and planters.
Instructors: Kate Hogan, Community Outreach Manager and Native Plant Demonstration Garden Manager for Denver Audubon
