Denver Urban Christmas Count at Cherry Creek State Park

PLEASE NOTE: You must register for this field trip (limit: 12 people) and complete the liability form when you register. Walk-up or impromptu participants will not be allowed. Note that this field trip is not accessible for those with mobility challenges.

Audubon's 123rd Christmas Bird Count is a holiday tradition – everyone welcome: beginners, intermediate, and advanced. The more eyes we have, the more birds we see. In partnership with National Audubon, Denver Audubon supports the bird count within the Denver Urban circle on Sunday, January 1, 2023.

We will meet at the marina at 7:30 a.m., on the west side of the park. You will need a Colorado State Parks pass. We will drive to various sites to take short walks of 0.5 to 1.25 miles, visiting 7 or 8 different areas in the north half of Cherry Creek State Park (the south half is out of the count circle). Observations while driving will be included in the count, but the focus will be on birds observed while walking or standing. Areas visited may include the marina, shooting range, Pelican Point, swim beach, shop creek, and others We will end the count about 12:00 or 1:00 p.m. Please be sure to have water, snacks, and appropriate clothing for the weather.
