Enjoy a few hours of birding with fellow Denver Audubon supporters in an area usually off-limits to the public. The 2,038-acre ranch borders the Pike National Forest and features an extraordinarily diverse landscape including red rock formations and sloping meadows; vast wildlife habitat and corridors, expansive and diverse vegetation and other natural resources; as well as cultural and historic assets, including a historic ranch operation and a number of historic buildings dating back to its original owners in the 1870s.
–> We will meet at the protected WEST side of Sandstone Ranch. The entrance is about 17 miles south of Sedalia (on Santa Fe/85) then south on 67, left on 105 and south). Just south of the entrance to Perry Park, there are two right turns almost together. Take the second one. Follow the ranch road about 0.5 miles to the main ranch area (several barns on the left, the rance manager’s house on the right). Go straight about 200 yards to the “gathering house”. There is a small parking lot below house up the hill next to the port-a-potty. If you have trouble finding the spot, contact Curt at 720-602-7362.
PLEASE NOTE:Limited availabilty for this opportunity exsists. You must register for this field trip (limit: 6 people) and complete the liability form when you register. Walk-up or impromptu participants will not be allowed. Other requirements are described below.
