Event Details
Located at the north end of South Platte Park in Littleton, Reynold's Landing is an excellent destination for birdwatching throughout the year, including winter. Bundle up for a peaceful morning of birdwatching, with opportunities for close encounters with winter waterfowl and other species commonly found in riverways, open fields, and wooded areas. Target birds include Common Goldeneye, Bufflehead, Hooded Merganser, Cackling Goose, Belted Kingfisher, American Kestrel, and, if we're lucky, perhaps even some waxwings! This outing is suitable for birdwatchers of all levels, and beginners are encouraged to participate.
To arrive at the parking lot turn off South Santa Fe onto Brewery Dr., and follow a few blocks to the end of the road. We will walk slowly from the Reynold's Landing Parking lot south to the Carson Nature Center and back, about 2 miles total over 2 to 2.5 hours. The trails are cement or packed rock and nearly flat. There is a potential for snow cover, which could impede accessibility, but I will be assessing the trails in the days prior to the trip and will email all participants with final details. Bathrooms are available at both ends of the route. If you have any accessibility questions, please reach out to Jordan at jgbirds@pm.me, and he will be happy to assist with accommodations so that everyone who wants to participate is able.
