Event Details
For Young Birders and their families, join Master Birder Angela in search of anyone with feathers along the South Platte River in Waterton Canyon. We will continue to work on identification skills including spotting (where to look and why), descriptions (of where birds are and their physical details), and listening to calls and songs to help identify them by ear. Depending on the weather, we may see some early migrants. Each time we practice, we get better! Come prepared with binoculars for everyone in your family, water, snacks, sun protection, warm clothing layers, and hiking boots. We will travel along the wide, flat, and gravel walkway (which is a maintenance road) for approximately 2 easy miles. Meet outside the Nature Center ready to go promptly by 8 a.m., where we will walk to the Canyon from there and back by 10:30 a.m. Recommended for young birders ages 7 to 15 with their families. You must register each adult and child. If you might drop off your teenager with the leaders for this trip, please make sure you email this information ahead of time and check in with them before the program begins with your child. More details to come for registered participants in an email a few days before the day of the trip.
Note: After this, continue with us for something new: Learn and play the bird-based strategy game, "Wingspan" developed by a birder, inside the Denver Audubon Nature Center from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. (separate registration; ages 10+ recommended). Bring your lunch or snacks and beverage. Here's a family review of the game (may need to copy and paste this into your web browser): https://www.stayathomegamers.com/wingspan-family-board-game-review/

Event Details
This meeting of the young birders club will not be a bird walk, but a board game party with birdwatching opportunities! We will be gathering in Denver Audubon's Kingery Nature center to teach, learn, and play Wingspan, a board game about the world of birds. Light refreshments may be served, but feel free to bring your own sack lunch as this event will run through lunchtime. You are also encouraged to bring binoculars, as the nature center's bird feeders offer great views of many bird's we'll see in the game.
Before registering, please keep in mind that while no experience with the game is required, the recommended player age is 10 & up, and this event will not be appropriate for youth under the age of 8. There are also plenty of tutorial videos online if you want to get a feel for the gameplay beforehand.
If you register and own a copy of the game that you'd be willing to bring to the event, please text the contact number and let me know, so we can have more players. We hope to see you there!
