Each Thursday this summer, from 9am-noon, we’ll explore the ponds, forests, and meadows at the Nature Center with a new theme. Register for one class or for all of them! Ages 6-11. Please bring a snack, water bottle, clothes and shoes that can get wet/muddy, and dress to be outside. Please apply sunscreen before the class. Registration required.

CSU Extension entomologist Karim Gharbi will lead a light trapping demonstration to find these mysterious moths and other nocturnal insects. Learn about the adaptations and ecology of these important nightime pollinators and predators, and what we can do to protect them. Includes live animal demonstrations and outdoor experiences. This family-friendly adventure is open to all nature lovers 5 years and up. Registration required.

This trip is geared towards youth and their families. Beat the July heat with Master Birders Sarah Leavesley and Jessica Colby at this beautiful forested park near Conifer. We will walk 1-3 miles on natural trails (steep at times), looking for common mountain birds, such as all 3 nuthatch species, flycatchers, warblers, and woodpeckers. Other potential species for this area include Western Tanager, Black-headed and Evening Grosbeak, Pine Siskin, and Ruby-crowned Kinglet.
Meeting Location: 11369 South Foxton Road, Conifer, CO 80433.

Join us at the Denver Audubon Kingery Nature Center for an after-dark exploration of the night sky, including telescope demonstrations with the Denver Astronomical Society. Learn about how birds and other wildlife use stars to navigate by night, and how we can reduce the impact of light pollution. See incredible astronomical objects through telescopes and learn to identify notable stars and constellations. This family-friendly night is open to all nature-lovers 5 years and up! This event will begin at 8:30pm with an optional brief hike, followed by stargazing. Participants can also skip the hike and visit with Denver Astronomical Society beginning at 8:30pm.

Do you have a special child in your life that loves exploring in nature? Join our all outdoor Nature Detectives program. Children ages 4 and younger will love becoming Nature Detectives and making discoveries in the Audubon forests, streams, and gardens alongside a favorite adult. We’ll enjoy songs, stories, games, and movement activities fun for the child in all of us. Connect with nature and other families while playing with us in the woods!
Please Note:
- Classes every Thursday from Sept. 12 – Oct. 10 (5-week session).
- Theme for session: Fall is Arriving!
- $75 registration includes all five dates for one child. Sibling registration is $40 per sibling. Younger siblings under 1 year of age are welcome to join at no additional cost.
- This program is 100% outdoors.
- Please dress for the weather.
- Adults required to accompany child throughout the program.

Join us at the Denver Audubon Kingery Nature Center for an after-dark exploration of beavers and their habitat. Learn about the incredible adaptations beavers have for a life in the wetlands with a kid-friendly demonstration. Then, we'll head hit the trails to see a real beaver dam and lodge, and search for these crepuscular animals in their natural habitat. We'll see signs of beaver activity and how they shape the riperian habitat to benefit themselves and other species. This family-friendly night is open to all nature-lovers 5 years and up!
